OW Essentials No.09 - Minimalist Film LUT
MODERN WARMTH WITHOUT HEAVY VINTAGE STYLING
Minimalist Film is designed for footage that should feel soft, contemporary and carefully finished. Warm, muted colours and gentle highlights create a refined filmic base, while balanced contrast keeps the image dimensional without making it harsh or overly faded.
Rather than recreating a specific film stock or applying an obvious vintage treatment, the LUT quietly softens the harder character of digital footage. Colours become deeper and more restrained, skin retains natural-looking warmth and bright areas take on a smoother, more controlled finish.
The result is understated but clearly authored: a versatile contemporary look that can support the image without becoming the subject of it.

How it was designed
Minimalist Film combines gentle tonal shaping with restrained colour rendering. The highlight response is softened while enough contrast and black-point definition are retained to prevent the image from feeling flat or washed out.
The colour palette is intentionally controlled rather than strongly stylised. This allows skin, wardrobe, production design and natural surroundings to remain recognisable while gaining a more cohesive and considered finish.
Minimalist Film is an original contemporary colour look inspired by the softer qualities associated with film. It is not a measured reproduction of a specific film stock, print process or laboratory scan.
Camera-specific versions are designed for direct use with their stated log profiles. A Rec.709 version is also included for footage that has already been transformed or recorded in a standard Rec.709 colour space.
