The Odyssey Inspired Film Emulation LUT

An original digital film stock inspired by the large-format film pipeline and elemental colour world of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

Built from a film response, not only a colour palette

The visual character associated with Christopher Nolan’s work is shaped by more than a finished colour grade. Film capture, negative response and the wider photochemical pipeline all contribute to the density, separation and physical presence of the image.

Odyssey 65 was developed from that principle. Instead of copying only the most recognisable colours from The Odyssey, the look begins with a custom Cineon film-emulation foundation. That negative-style response is combined with original colour decisions designed around pale landscapes, steel-blue environments, weathered earth tones and controlled human warmth.

The result is a distinctive film-derived starting point for modern digital footage, rather than a simple ancient-world colour filter.

What you will notice

• Denser, more substantial midtones.
• Controlled highlights in hard daylight and reflective environments.
• Pale sand, stone and earth tones without a heavy sepia wash.
• Steel-blue separation in water, skies and cooler shadows.
• Warm skin, firelight and bronze held apart from the surrounding palette.
• Restrained saturation with clear colour separation.
• A grounded image that works across both wide landscapes and close human detail.

How it was developed

Odyssey 65 was built using custom Offwhitecolor film-stock profiles and a Cineon-based negative emulation.

The underlying film response was informed partly by photographed colour-chart references and partly by published technical film data. These sources were used to shape the tonal response and colour relationships beneath the finished look.

Original colour decisions were then added to create the specific Odyssey 65 palette. This second stage controls the relationship between bleached earth, cooler environments, protected skin tones and selective warmth.

It is not an exact reproduction of the film’s private negative, laboratory or final grading pipeline. It is an independently developed digital film stock inspired by its large-format film language.
