A GOLDEN FINISH FOR NATURAL LIGHT

Golden Sunset is designed for footage that should retain the warmth and atmosphere of late-afternoon light. It builds a cohesive golden palette through highlights and midtones while preserving enough colour separation to keep the result dimensional.

Bright areas take on a soft honey-gold character, skin feels naturally sunlit and greens become warmer and more subdued. Cooler colours remain comparatively restrained, allowing the golden light to become the visual focus without turning every part of the image into the same shade of orange.

Gently faded contrast and smoother tonal transitions give the image a relaxed, nostalgic finish that works especially well with backlight, open shade and naturally warm environments.

How it was designed

Golden Sunset combines a warm colour direction with a softened contrast curve. Instead of functioning as a simple warming filter, the LUT distributes warmth selectively through the image so that highlights, skin and natural surroundings retain visible separation.

It is designed to shape footage captured in natural light, particularly when warm or low-angle light is already present in the scene. The LUT does not digitally create sunlight, flare or a sunset where none was captured.

Each camera-specific version is designed for direct use with its stated log profile, creating a consistent version of the look across the supported camera systems.

Does Golden Sunset create sunset lighting?

No. A LUT can shape colour and contrast, but it cannot add directional sunlight, flare or realistic backlighting. Golden Sunset works best when warm or low-angle natural light is already present in the footage.

Can I use it on footage shot outside golden hour?

Yes. It can bring a warmer direction to neutral daylight, but the most natural results come from footage that already contains warm light. Adjust exposure and white balance before applying the LUT.

How does the look affect skin tones?

Skin takes on a warmer, softly sunlit character. The LUT is designed to retain useful separation between skin, highlights and the surrounding environment rather than applying one uniform amber tint.

Does it work with green environments?

Yes. Greens are warmed and softened towards more muted olive and dry summer hues, helping foliage sit naturally within the golden palette.

Can I apply the LUT directly to log footage?

Yes. Each camera-specific version is designed for direct use with its stated log profile.

Which LUT file should I use?

Choose the file that exactly matches the camera and log profile used to record your footage. Versions for all supported camera systems are included in the download.

What is the difference between the x65 and x33 versions?

Both contain the same look. The x65 version provides a higher-resolution transform for colour grading, while the x33 version is included for monitoring and wider software or hardware compatibility.

Does the LUT include grain, halation or glow?

No. A .cube LUT changes colour and tone. Spatial effects such as grain, halation, bloom and gate weave need to be added separately.

Can I reduce the strength of the look?

Yes. Reduce the LUT intensity using node key output, effect opacity or the equivalent mixing control in your editing software.
