OW Essentials No.11 – Modern Editorial LUT
Contemporary colour for commercial and everyday footage
Modern Editorial brings the controlled palette and denser tonal structure of contemporary fashion, lifestyle and brand imagery to a wide range of footage. It cools environmental colour towards steel blue, controls yellow-green foliage and keeps skin in a calmer, warmer-neutral range.
The result is clearly graded without becoming a one-scene effect. Primary colours remain separated, warm practicals retain their presence and added density gives daylight, interiors and city footage a consistent editorial finish.
What you will notice
- Warm-neutral skin tones with less visible pink and magenta.
- Deeper blues with a controlled steel-blue and cyan direction.
- Yellow-green foliage shifted towards darker, quieter olive tones.
- Cooler separation in whites, greys, concrete and metallic surfaces.
- Crisp contrast and increased colour density without excessively closing the image.
- Warm interior light and coloured night practicals remain clearly separated.
How it was designed
Modern Editorial was developed as a versatile finishing look rather than a film-stock reproduction or heavily stylised effect. Its character comes from the relationship between warmer skin, cooler environments, controlled greens and deeper blues.
The look was evaluated across skin tones, foliage, water, architecture, warm interiors and coloured night lighting. This helped keep its editorial identity consistent across different subjects without forcing every image into the same dominant colour cast.
